Many of the people crying about tariffs, saying they cause price increases, are the same people who are in favor of other things that also cause price increases.
Things like higher taxes on corporations, unions, minimum wage laws, child labor laws, environmental regulations, carbon taxes, 40-hour work weeks, safety regulations, and employee benefits like retirement programs, medical insurance and maternity leave.
I’m not saying these things are bad, it’s just that China and other countries do not have many of these things. That is why they can make cheaper products. In fact, we are losing more and more manufacturing jobs because we cannot compete with their lower prices.
If we want to have manufacturing jobs in the U.S., tariffs are one tool to ensure this, but I suspect the outcry is mostly just a dislike for Trump.
