Lower Columbia Area speaks up: Letters to the editor for the week of Jun. 20, 2025
Our weekly round-up of letters published in the Daily News.
Observations and thoughts on issues:
It's OK to increase the national debt, as long as there is not a Democratic president.
A bullied teenager showing up at the mall to shoot the place up — that can't happen here.
Elon Musk knows damn well that even if the federal government is hiding evidence of more felonious behavior by Trump, MAGA will dismiss the evidence no matter what and how disgusting the crime(s).
Both Longview and Kelso would be better served if those two city councilmembers would stop pretending to be comedians and focus on the third-world level city streets and the malfunctioning streets lights in Kelso.

Letters to the editor policy:
Letters should be original and no longer than 250 words. Letters must include the author’s name, street address or telephone number for verification. The newspaper does not share that information with third parties. Only the name and city of residence are published. One submission can print per month. All submissions are subject to editing for length, spelling, grammar and clarity. Send submissions to letters@tdn.com or The Daily News, PO Box 1666, Longview, WA 98632.
LCC draws students from many different age groups: those right out of high school; young parents who need education (required for jobs so they can raise their children); older adults wanting/needing the education to rise in the job market; and students needing retraining for a changing job market.
Many of these students are eligible for grants and scholarships or have some of their own funding, but with the rising cost of living, they may need additional financial resources to help. In response, LCC created the Student Success Fund. The concept originated at LCC and has been adopted by many other schools across the country after former LCC President Chris Baily presented the idea at a national conference.
My donation addresses so many types of needs, I would also encourage your contributions to the Student Success Fund.
Who needs these funds? A young single parent who is a student who needs money for childcare; a scholarship student who needs money for transportation; or a student close to graduating whose expenses have increased unexpectedly.
Join me in supporting this unique idea: LCC Student Success Fund through the Students in Need campaign!

Those who would vote out Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez for her recent unpopular vote about requiring citizenship ID to vote would collectively be shooting themselves in both feet.
No other Democrat could survive the next election in this red district, and her defeat would mean a victory for a Trump lickspittle. Things are bad enough for her with these scurrilous, pop-up ads showing up on the internet.
Democrats, independents, and all who would defend our at-risk democracy under Trump and company — including our right to vote by mail — wise up and support her. My check is in the mail.
